Glory-hunting Wim Fissette has set his sights on leading Belgium to the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Finals after being appointed national team captain.

Fissette replaces Johan van Herck, who was also his nation's Davis Cup skipper, after he announced his decision to step down as captain prior to Belgium’s defeat to Korea, Republic in the men’s World Cup of Tennis earlier this month.

The 42-year-old has a wealth of coaching experience having coached the likes of Victoria Azarenka, Kim Clijsters, Simona Halep, Angelique Kerber and Naomi Osaka, all of whom are former world No. 1s.

"I believe I can use my experience of coaching different personalities with a very individual approach and bring this together in a strong team and qualify for the Finals," said Fissette.

Fissette will be on the Belgium bench for their Billie Jean King Cup Qualifier against Canada, which takes place at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver from 14-15 April.
