Draws announced for Group I and II events

The draw for all four regional events that are being played next month took place at the ITF headquarters in London on Tuesday 22 March.

Top seeds Serbia were drawn in the same group as Hungary, hosts Turkey, Estonia and Denmark at the 2022 Billie Jean King Cup Europe/Africa Group I event, which takes place in Antalya, Turkey on 11-16 April.

In Group B, second seeds Sweden were given a very tough draw in the same group as Croatia and Slovenia – both of whom will be among the favourites to progress to the Billie Jean King Cup Play-offs later this year.

Three teams will advance to the Play-offs from Europe/Africa Group I, with two teams set to be relegated to Europe/Africa Group II.

In Americas Group I, top seeds Brazil find themselves in the so-called ‘group of death’ alongside Argentina, Colombia and Guatemala.

Hosts Ecuador will line up against Paraguay, Mexico and Chile in Group B.

Two teams will be promoted from Americas Group I, with two relegated.

With only one group of six teams in Asia/Oceania Group I there was no need for a draw. All eyes will be on India’s Sania Mirza, who has announced her retirement from tennis at the end of the year.

If India are not one of the two teams to win promotion from Asia/Oceania, it could be the last time that we see Mirza competing in her country’s colours.

The Asia/Oceania Group I event, which features Japan, China P.R., Korea Rep., India, Indonesia and New Zealand, is also taking place in Antalya, alongside the Europe/Africa Group I competition.

Two teams will be promoted from Asia/Oceania Group I, with two relegated.

In Europe/Africa Group II, which is taking place in Finland, the hosts will do battle in Group B with Luxembourg, Lithuania and Israel.

Group A will see Greece, Egypt and Norway fighting for top spot.

Two teams will be promoted from Europe/Africa Group II, with two relegated.
