Netherlands heading back to Den Bosch for Spain clash

Netherlands will host Spain indoors on clay at the Maaspoort Den Bosch when the nations meet in the Billie Jean King Cup by BNP Paribas Qualifiers on 15-16 April.

The Dutch have fond memories of ’s-Hertogenbosch, which has hosted four Billie Jean King Cup ties since they returned to the international rounds of the competition in 2014, most recently defeating China in the 2021 Play-Offs to book their place in the 2022 Qualifiers.

“We have had very good experiences at the Maaspoort, because several Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup meetings have already taken place at this top sports location,” said KNLTB Technical and Commercial Director Jacco Eltingh.

“The Maaspoort is a beautiful location with an intimate atmosphere. At the moment we do not yet know whether and how many spectators can be present at the tie, but we will ensure that tennis fans do not miss anything of this meeting with Spain. Whatever the outcome, the public will be able to enjoy top tennis in the Netherlands via a live stream.”

Spain, who exited in the Group Stage at the 2021 Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Prague, come into the tie with a 3-0 record against Netherlands in the competition. The nations have not met since 1993, where Conchita Martinez and Arantxa Sanchez Vicario led the nation to a 3-0 victory on clay in Frankfurt, Germany.

The winner of this tie will advance to the 2022 Billie Jean King Cup Finals, which is due to take place at the end of the year.
