Pegula returns to boost USA's quest to reach 2023 Finals

USA will be boosted by the return of world No. 3 Jessica Pegula as they bid to secure their place in the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Finals with victory over Austria in April’s Qualifiers.

Pegula is set to become the highest-ranked player to compete for USA in Billie Jean King Cup since then-world No. 1 Serena Williams in 2015 when she takes to the court at the Delray Beach Tennis Centre in Florida.

The 28-year-old, who has contested two ties in the women’s World Cup of Tennis, has not featured in the competition since the 2022 Qualifiers when USA defeated Ukraine in Asheville.

Pegula will add considerable strength to an already powerful team with world No. 6 Coco Gauff confirmed for the showdown with Austria, which will take place from 14-15 April.

Assuming Pegula and Gauff maintain their lofty positions in the WTA Rankings, it will be the first time that 18-time champions USA have had two players ranked within the top six in the same team since 2005.

Back then, Lindsay Davenport and Serena Williams joined forces to fire USA to victory in a World Group First Round clash against Belgium, also at the Delray Beach Tennis Centre.
