Germany prevailed 3-1 after Laura Siegemund clinched two points in singles, defeating Brazilian No. 1 Beatriz Haddad Maia on the opening day before sealing victory against Carolina Alves.
Laura Pigossi came close to causing an upset against Germany No. 1 Tatjana Maria and credited the influence of the home crowd on her performance.
"I like playing with the fans," she said. "Feeling like I'm not alone on the court. Brazilians like to play together."
Haddad Maia gave the home fans something to cheer about when she bounced back to defeat Anna-Lena Friedsam in the first of the reverse singles matches on Saturday.
